Bitcoin (BTC) climbed above $78,000 as traders reacted to fresh U.S.-Iran diplomacy claims, even after Tehran rejected Donald Trump’s suggestion that it wanted a quick deal.

Key Points:

  • Bitcoin recovered to an intraday high of $78,940 after falling as low as $76,367 over the previous 24 hours.
  • Trump said Iran was eager to reach an agreement, but Iranian state media rejected that characterization.
  • Oil remained above $100, keeping pressure on inflation expectations and risk markets.

Bitcoin Market Rebound

Bitcoin rebounded during U.S. trading hours as investors weighed Trump’s comments against signs that the regional conflict was still expanding. In a Truth Social post, Trump said Iran wanted “a deal, as quickly as possible, as badly as possible,” while Washington remained open to negotiations.

U.S. equities also recovered from an earlier sell-off, with reports saying roughly $570 billion returned to the market within three hours after more than $600 billion had been erased. Bitcoin followed the broader improvement in risk sentiment. The rebound reversed much of the earlier drop.

Iranian state media later rejected Trump’s claim that Tehran was seeking a rapid agreement. LiveSquawk also cited Iran’s ILNA news agency as saying the United States was pursuing a phased deal through a Pakistani intermediary. No final agreement was confirmed.

The dispute matters because energy markets remain exposed to a widening regional conflict, with U.S. crude trading near $103 per barrel and Brent close to $108. Oman also postponed planned regional talks over the Strait of Hormuz, while fighting involving Iran-backed Houthis increased pressure on Red Sea shipping routes.

MPA Macro analyst Derek Tang said traders were increasingly recognizing the risk that the Iran war could last longer than markets had expected, leaving little relief for energy prices. Higher oil can reinforce inflation pressure and tighter monetary policy expectations, both of which can weigh on speculative assets such as Bitcoin.

Bitcoin has already shown how quickly geopolitical and macroeconomic headlines can reverse short-term sentiment, falling to $76,367 before rebounding toward $79,000 in the same session. The cryptocurrency also recovered from roughly $60,000 in late August, but it remains well below its October 2025 peak above $126,000.
