Ethereum (ETH) traded near $2,465 as EIP-8288 put the network’s post-quantum roadmap beside an immediate price test around $2,600.

Key Points:

  • ETH held near $2,465, with support around $2,438-$2,440.
  • EIP-8288 proposes recursive STARK aggregation to lower the cost of quantum-resistant signatures and cryptographic proofs.
  • The proposal remains a draft with no confirmed deployment schedule.

Ethereum EIP-8288

Vitalik Buterin and Thomas Coratger proposed EIP-8288 to let transactions declare quantum-resistant signatures and STARK proofs as dependencies, allowing mempool nodes and block builders to combine them into one recursive proof.

The proposal was merged into Ethereum’s EIP repository on Sep. 9 and remains in draft form. No activation date is set.

The design addresses the high data and gas costs associated with post-quantum signatures and STARK proofs, which can become impractical when verified individually onchain. Recursive aggregation is intended to reduce that burden.

Meanwhile, ETH stayed inside a $2,440-$2,470 band this week, with 24-hour trading volume around $15.82 billion. Resistance remains concentrated between $2,544 and $2,600.

Buterin Market View

Buterin has said he hopes EIP-8288 can be considered for the I-star fork after Hegota, describing it as a next step after Frames. That does not establish a deployment schedule.

For price, the bullish scenario requires ETH to move through $2,550 and then break $2,600, which could open targets near $2,656 and $2,786.

A break below $2,310 would instead shift attention toward deeper support near $2,220.

The proposal matters because it addresses a long-term technical constraint rather than a near-term market catalyst, and activation would require a network upgrade. Its draft status limits what traders can price in today.

That distinction comes after a second straight week with ETH below major resistance, while $2,438 has remained the immediate downside reference. Ethereum has stayed near $2,450, leaving price caught between a possible breakout and another support test.
