Ethereum (ETH) is consolidating near $2,474 after reaching an eight-month high of $2,660, while shrinking exchange balances and rising staking levels keep the $3,000 breakout target in view.

Key Points:

  • ETH has formed a tightening triangle, with buyers defending higher lows and sellers holding resistance near the recent rally peak.
  • A breakout could reopen the path toward $3,000.
  • Exchange balances have fallen to about 14.7 million ETH, while roughly 43 million ETH, nearly 35% of supply, remains locked in staking.

Ethereum Supply Tightens

ETH pulled back after its run to $2,660, then held around $2,474 as buyers continued to defend a rising support line. That structure has compressed price action into a triangle.

The pattern resembles an earlier triangle that preceded a 30.91% gain, while whale accumulation coincided with more than $300 million in ETH leaving exchanges before the latest rally.

Exchange balances have since declined to around 14.7 million ETH from earlier levels above 20 million, reducing the amount of Ether readily available for sale. Staking is tightening the float further.

About 43 million ETH is locked in staking services, nearly 35% of total supply, while spot Ethereum ETFs are also placing more coins into regulated custody and new issuance remains limited.

ETH Momentum Test

At a later snapshot, ETH traded around $2,510, about 5.6% below $2,660, while volume on both sides eased and the momentum that powered the earlier breakout remained absent. Supply pressure alone does not confirm another rally.

A rise in volume and open interest would signal fresh participation, while a sustained break could revive $2,650 to $2,700 and then $3,000; failure at support would expose $2,380 to $2,400.

The earlier triangle broke with rising volume and produced a 30.91% gain in only three days, but the current setup has yet to show the same participation from buyers. That difference keeps the breakout unconfirmed.
