Dogecoin (DOGE), the largest memecoin by market value, nears a historic support zone tied to an 887% rally, while a possible $250B yen carry-trade unwind threatens the rebound case.

Key Points:

  • Dogecoin is approaching the $0.048 to $0.063 range, which preceded gains of about 224% and 887% during earlier market cycles.
  • A rebound could first target $0.088, followed by resistance near $0.11 to $0.12, if buyers defend the support area.
  • Possible rate increases in Japan and the U.S. could trigger another yen carry-trade unwind and pressure risk assets.

Dogecoin Support Test

DOGE traded near $0.07 on Tuesday, Aug. 4, about 85% below its late-2024 peak near $0.48, while remaining under its main weekly exponential moving averages. Sellers still control the broader trend.

The token is moving toward the $0.048 to $0.063 band, roughly 30% below current levels, that served as an accumulation area from 2022 through early 2024.

A Jun. 2022 test preceded a gain of about 224%, while a later return to the same range came before an 887% advance toward $0.48. The weekly relative strength index stood near 32.7 and could fall below the oversold threshold of 30 if the decline continues.

Dogecoin Macro Risks

If support holds, an initial rebound could target the 20-week EMA near $0.088 before testing resistance between $0.11 and $0.12. A weekly close below $0.05 would weaken that setup.

The Bank of Japan held its policy rate at 1% in Jul. after a 25-basis-point increase in Jun., although board member Hajime Takata supported an immediate move to 1.25%. Markets put about 40% odds on a September increase after Japan’s two-year government bond yield rose to 1.51%.

The Federal Reserve adds a second risk as traders consider another 25-basis-point move in September. CME FedWatch showed the implied probability rising to about 62.5%, from 55.8% one week earlier.

Simultaneous tightening could strengthen the yen and accelerate the unwinding of yen-funded trades. During the Aug. 2024 unwind, Japan’s Nikkei fell nearly 20%, the S&P 500 lost more than 5%, and Bitcoin (BTC) dropped about 15%.

The affected leveraged positions were estimated at roughly ¥40 trillion, or $250 billion.

Dogecoin’s current setup follows a long retreat from roughly $0.48 in late 2024 to about $0.07 on Aug. 4, a decline of about 85%. That history leaves the $0.048 to $0.063 zone as the market’s next major test, not proof that a reversal has begun.
