iPhone 18 Pro Event Date And Split Launch Plan
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said this week that the company will mail press invitations within days, and that the keynote should fall on Wednesday, Sept. 9. Writers tracking the calendar predicted the invitations would arrive two weeks to the day before the show.
Apple has kept that 14-day gap every year since 2022, which makes the confirmation more ritual than revelation.
The lineup itself breaks with a decade of habit, and shoppers who want a new iPhone this autumn will have to reach for the expensive end.
Only the iPhone 18 Pro, the iPhone 18 Pro Max and a foldable handset detailed as the iPhone Ultra arrive this fall, while the standard iPhone 18 and the cheaper 18e slip to spring 2027.

A20 Pro Chip, Battery And Camera Upgrades
Both Pro models should carry the A20 Pro, built on TSMC's 2-nanometer process, with leakers putting the gain near 18 percent in speed and 30 percent in efficiency over the A19. That is no longer a first, since the M6 chip inside Tuesday's new Mac mini claimed the title. Regulatory filings point to a 4,288mAh cell in the U.S. iPhone 18 Pro and 5,567mAh in the Pro Max, up from 4,252mAh and 5,088mAh in the current models.
The cameras look like the bigger story.
Leaker Ice Universe reported that the variable aperture main lens will be exclusive to the Pro Max, contradicting months of claims that both phones would carry the mechanism, which needs room a smaller chassis cannot spare.
Apple last divided Pro camera hardware in 2023, when only the iPhone 15 Pro Max shipped with 5x optical zoom, and the smaller model caught up a year later.
Pricing Pressure And The Memory Squeeze
Analysts have pinned the base iPhone 18 Pro anywhere from $1,199 to $1,399, a spread that reflects how sharply memory prices have moved this year.
Gurman calculated that matching the $100 increases from Samsung and Google would put the phone at $1,199. Whichever figure lands, the decision belongs to John Ternus, who Apple announced in April would succeed Tim Cook as chief executive on Sept. 1.
Apple spent 2026 nudging prices upward long before any iPhone reached the stage. It raised Mac and iPad tags in June, then priced the Mac mini unveiled Tuesday at $899, a machine that started at $599 when it arrived in October 2024.
