Solana's Pump.fun Shuts Down Livestreams After Content Moderation Failure

Solana dApp Pump.fun suspends streaming feature amid content crisis

Solana-based meme coin generator Pump.fun has decided to pause its livestreaming feature indefinitely. This decision follows a series of troubling incidents that exploited the controversial feature, as the platform works to enhance its moderation capabilities to address the increased activity.

Pump.fun has temporarily halted livestreams in response to alarming content. The platform remains committed to user safety and has initiated efforts to remove unsuitable images, comments, and videos.

The rapid surge in livestream activity, which amplified over 100-fold in just a week, overwhelmed the existing moderation systems. In light of this, Pump.fun has expanded its moderation workforce, bolstering both human and automated content controls. Despite these efforts, the temporary suspension of livestreaming services was deemed necessary until the infrastructure can adequately handle the platform's elevated activity levels.

Looking ahead, Pump.fun is set to publish comprehensive guidelines. These will clarify rules and regulations for site usage. The platform will also enhance transparency by providing creators and users insight into moderation decisions. This aims to foster an understanding of processes and outcomes, as Pump.fun seeks to grow alongside its community, emerging stronger through challenges.

Alarmingly, Pump.fun’s livestreams were reportedly used for extreme demonstrations. This included threats of self-harm and violence tied to the financial performance of certain tokens. In one shocking occurrence, a user threatened suicide if their token didn’t reach a $25 million market cap.

Other instances involved individuals showcasing violent actions towards family members to advance their projects, escalating to firearm use as coin values increased. These actions ignited widespread outrage online.
