iPhone 18 Pro Max Camera Exclusive
The company announced the date on Aug. 26, scheduling the keynote for 10 a.m. Pacific at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino. It will be the first product launch run by John Ternus, who takes the chief executive job from Tim Cook on Sept. 1. Two Pro phones and Apple's first foldable handset are expected on stage. The standard iPhone 18 is not on that list. The company pushed it to a separate launch in spring 2027.
Chinese leaker Ice Universe claimed this month that variable aperture will reach the Pro Max alone, upending a two-year assumption that both Pro models would carry it. No iPhone has ever shipped with a moving aperture, and the main camera has used a fixed ƒ/1.78 opening since the iPhone 14 Pro arrived in 2022.
That would hand the larger phone a feature buyers cannot get anywhere else in the line.

Mark Gurman Reads Apple's Invite
Mark Gurman lent the claim more weight this week, reading the light behind Apple's logo on the event invitation as a nod to a mechanical aperture on the Pro Max. He also tied the invite's blue tone to a new finish, one of four colors now expected alongside dark cherry, black and silver.
A variable aperture lets the photographer control how much light reaches the sensor, producing optical background blur rather than a software imitation. Apple currently creates that effect computationally through Portrait mode. Both Pro models are otherwise expected to share the 2-nanometer A20 Pro chip, the company's own C2 modem and a slimmer Dynamic Island.
iPhone 18 Pro Max Price And Precedent
One estimate puts the increase at as much as $300 over comparable iPhone 17 Pro models, a jump blamed on June price rises and a continuing memory shortage.
Apple has not commented on pricing or on any of the leaked hardware details, and the figures circulating this week remain outside projections.
The Pro Max is separately tipped to gain a larger battery and a longer optical zoom, with Chinese regulatory filings reportedly listing a cell near 5,600 milliamp-hours.
Apple has singled out its biggest phone before, giving the iPhone 15 Pro Max a tetraprism telephoto lens in 2023 that the smaller Pro did not receive. It brought the same lens to both sizes a year later. This year's divide may prove just as temporary.
