OpenAI's new enterprise agent product drew analyst blame for a 12.7% slide in HubSpot shares since Wednesday, with Workday and Atlassian also falling.

Key Points:

  • OpenAI released Presence on Jul. 22, a platform for running voice and chat AI agents inside large companies.
  • Shares of Workday, Atlassian, HubSpot, Salesforce and Okta all dropped across Wednesday and Thursday sessions.
  • TD Cowen analysts called the launch a likely major reason for a 3% decline in the IGV software index.

OpenAI Presence Targets Support And Sales Work

OpenAI unveiled Presence on Wednesday, describing it as a deployment platform for running voice and chat agents rather than as another model release.

The product handles customer support, sales and internal service requests, and it lets companies set policies, approved actions and guardrails that govern how agents reach internal systems.

Those guardrails can cut in mid-conversation when a request moves outside company boundaries.

Before an agent goes live, simulations and graders test it against routine requests, edge cases and higher-risk situations, checking whether it escalates a problem to a person when it should. After launch, the company's Codex coding agent reviews real sessions and proposes fixes that staff review and approve.

Access stays narrow for now. OpenAI is selling Presence through a limited availability program staffed by its own deployment engineers and partner integrators, with no self-service tier, weeks after it rolled out a business-focused version of ChatGPT. The company says the software already resolves about 75% of inbound calls on its English-language support line without a person stepping in.

TD Cowen Analysts See Customer Service Exposed

TD Cowen analysts wrote that the announcement was likely a "major reason" for a 3% sell-off in the IGV software index on Wednesday, followed by further declines the next day.

The analysts noted that Presence bundles model reasoning, company data access and policy control, the same combination that software vendors have spent the past two years selling to their own customers. Derrick Wood, a tech analyst on that team, singled out customer service and sales as the business fields with the heaviest overlap.

Since Wednesday morning, Salesforce has lost 7.7%, Okta 4.2%, Workday 9.9% and Atlassian 11.8%.

Those declines landed in an already rough stretch for equities, with oil prices climbing, bond yields rising and several large technology companies disappointing investors on earnings. The sector has spent much of 2026 fielding one question, which is whether AI agents will eventually displace the subscription software they currently sit on top of.

HubSpot Stock Fell On Similar OpenAI News In 2025

Wood pointed back to Oct. 1, 2025, as precedent. OpenAI published a run of blog posts that day describing internal tools for sales, inbound marketing and support, and HubSpot shares dropped 7.2% in afternoon trading before closing 6.1% lower. DocuSign and ZoomInfo slid as well, and TD Cowen argued at the time that the market had overreacted.
