Shiba Inu holders face heightened security risks after a compromised TrustWallet browser extension drained funds from multiple accounts. Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao confirmed losses reached approximately $7 million.

The breach affected version 2.68 of the Trust Wallet Chrome extension, raising questions about browser-based wallet security across communities with large retail investor bases.

What Happened: Extension Compromise

Malicious code embedded in Trust Wallet's Chrome extension version 2.68 allowed attackers to access wallets and drain funds without user knowledge.

The compromised version was distributed through the official Chrome Web Store before Trust Wallet identified and addressed the issue.

Susbarium | Shibarium Trustwatch issued alerts on social media platform X, urging users to disable version 2.68 immediately and update to version 2.69 from the Chrome Web Store. The warnings specified that mobile users and other extension versions remained unaffected.

Why It Matters: Compensation Process

Trust Wallet CEO Eowyn Chen announced the company would reimburse all victims of the security incident.

In a Dec. 28 update, Chen said the team identified 2,596 affected wallet addresses but received approximately 5,000 reimbursement claims, indicating numerous false or duplicate submissions.

The incident follows a September 2025 flash loan attack on the Shibarium bridge that resulted in losses estimated at $4.1 million worth of assets, including ETH, SHIB and KNINE.
