Aggressive selling in XRP (XRP) futures on Binance reached its heaviest level since May, with the taker buy/sell ratio sinking to 0.86 as the token held near $1.01.

Key Points:

  • The taker buy/sell ratio on Binance fell to 0.86, its lowest since May, as sell orders outpaced buy orders.
  • Open interest in XRP futures climbed to about 435.1 million tokens, well above the 30-day average of 403.6 million.
  • Wallets holding at least 1 million XRP grew by 32 over three months while the market cap dropped 29%.

XRP Taker Ratio Hits 0.86 On Binance

CryptoQuant flagged the slide in a market note published this week as the token struggled to hold its footing. A reading below 1 tells traders that market participants are filling more sell orders than buy orders on the exchange. The ratio has stayed under that line for most of the past month, and the brief moves above it never turned into a trend.

The metric counts aggressive orders that hit resting bids and offers, so it captures urgency rather than patient limit buying. A low print does not force further losses on its own, and a sustained move back above 1, paired with heavier volume, would point to genuine demand returning.

XRP Open Interest Signals Liquidation Risk

Open interest in XRP futures reached roughly 435.1 million tokens on the same venue. That figure sits above the 30-day average near 403.6 million and lifts the reading to about 1.20 on a Z-score basis, which measures how far positioning has strayed from its recent norm. Anything over 1 marks activity that runs hotter than usual.

Weak prices and stacked leverage together raise the odds of a forced unwind if sellers keep pressing. Institutional demand has thinned as well, with weekly inflows into XRP exchange-traded funds dropping to about $1 million from $14.9 million a week earlier.

Analyst CasiTrades expects a deeper pullback before the token finds a floor, naming $0.94 as a relief level and $0.87 as the larger downside target. XRP trades below its 50-day, 100-day and 200-day moving averages, which sit near $1.08, $1.18 and $1.37. The RSI has slipped to about 36.8, close to oversold ground without reaching it.

XRP Whale Wallets Defy The Price Slide

Large holders have moved the other way, and Santiment counted 2,038 XRP Ledger wallets holding at least 1 million tokens, an increase of 32 over three months. Those wallets added more than 380 million XRP in the week to Aug. 9, and roughly 81% of the tokens withdrawn from Binance on Aug. 3 went to large addresses, even as the token's market capitalization fell 29%.

The retreat has been building since late July, when XRP topped out near $1.16 and then surrendered every attempt at a bounce.

The token slipped under $1 this week for the first time since November 2024, a level that held through the spring selloff and through the sharp Binance sell wave in May. It now trades roughly 69% below the record high Ripple's token set in 2025.
