Elemental Royalty Corporation has declared its first-ever dividend and is offering qualifying registered shareholders the option to receive payment in Tether Gold (XAUT).
The announcement makes Elemental one of the first mining royalty companies to offer a tokenized gold payout option.
The Dividend Structure
Elemental is offering XAU₮ as an alternative to a standard cash dividend. Shareholders who qualify must be registered holders. The company has not publicly disclosed the per-share dividend amount or the deadline for shareholders to elect the XAU₮ option in the filings available at publication time.
XAU₮, issued by Tether, represents one troy ounce of physical gold per token, held in Swiss vaults. A shareholder choosing the XAU₮ option would receive fractional or whole token amounts corresponding to their dividend entitlement.
Background
Elemental Royalty is a gold-focused streaming and royalty company. It earns revenue by financing mining operations in exchange for the right to buy a portion of future gold production at fixed prices. That model produces cash flows tied closely to gold prices. The company trades on the TSX Venture Exchange. Royalty companies have historically paid dividends in cash or stock. Tether launched XAU₮ in 2020, but mainstream adoption of the token as a dividend instrument has been limited. This marks one of the most direct integrations of XAU₮ into a traditional corporate finance structure seen publicly to date. Yellow has followed (see prior Yellow coverage) over the past year.
Why Tether Gold
For shareholders who want gold exposure, receiving XAU₮ instead of cash maintains exposure to the metal without selling dividends into fiat. It also eliminates physical delivery complexity. A shareholder in any jurisdiction with internet access and a compatible wallet could hold XAU₮ directly.
For Elemental, the option aligns its dividend with its core business. The company's revenues come from gold production. Paying a dividend in a gold-backed token reinforces that identity.
Industry Implications
No major royalty company has previously offered a tokenized commodity as a dividend option. If Elemental's structure gains traction, other gold producers or royalty firms could adopt similar frameworks. It also provides a rare real-world use case for XAU₮ beyond trading and collateral.
