Apple has not yet sold a single iPhone Duo, with preorders for the $1,999 foldable opening Oct. 16 and one research firm forecasting 6 million sales this year.

Key Points:

  • The iPhone Duo is not on sale yet, so no sales results or buyer reviews exist.
  • Counterpoint Research forecasts about 6 million units in 2026, depending on production.
  • Wall Street is split, while early hands-on reports praise the software and flag weight and price.

iPhone Duo Sales Forecast

Counterpoint Research said on Sept. 30 that Apple will sell about 6 million iPhone Duo units in 2026, one of the first public sales estimates for the company's debut foldable. Senior analyst Ivan Lam said the figure depends on how fast Apple ramps up production. No sales results exist yet, because preorders open Oct. 16 and the phone reaches stores Oct. 23.

Supply chain sources reportedly put Foxconn's assembly yield for the Duo just above 60%, and one source said it could take six months to a year to mature. Apple has not changed its launch dates.

Apple Stock Reaction

Apple shares rose about 3.6% in the session after the Sept. 9 unveiling, and analysts then split over what the $1,999 price means for demand and margins. Evercore ISI analyst Amit Daryanani said Apple will sell every Duo it can build in the first six months, while Citi kept a Buy rating and a $365 target. Jefferies held its Underperform rating and argued Apple is protecting volume at the expense of margin, and Bank of America trimmed its target to $370 from $380 on rising memory costs.

iPhone Duo Hands-On Reviews

Buyer reviews do not exist yet.

Journalists who handled the phone at press briefings praised the software, the IP68 water and dust rating and a crease that is visible but cannot be felt. The same early reports noted that the Duo weighs 254 grams against 201 grams for Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8, costs $100 more and lacks a dedicated telephoto camera. Those impressions come from brief hands-on sessions, not from long-term use.

Tarun Pathak, research director at Counterpoint, called the 6 million figure an upper-end estimate and said durability, hinge reliability, weight and battery life remain the main challenges for foldables.

IDC estimates foldable shipments will grow about 13% to 22.9 million units this year, and said the segment would have declined without the Duo.

Apple unveiled the Duo on Sept. 9 at the first product event led by Chief Executive John Ternus, alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. The phone starts at $1,999 for 256GB and runs to $3,199 for 2TB, a price below what many investors had expected. First deliveries were set about six weeks after the announcement, a longer wait than usual for a new iPhone.
