Shares of Airbnb jumped 17% to a four-year high after CEO Brian Chesky tied stronger second-quarter results to measurable gains from artificial intelligence.

Key Points:

  • Airbnb’s Q2 revenue rose 17% to $3.61B, while gross booking value increased 16% to $27.2B.
  • AI now resolves nearly 45% of support issues without a human agent, helping cut support costs per booking by 16%.
  • The company raised its 2026 revenue growth outlook to at least the mid-teens and expects an adjusted EBITDA margin of at least 35.5%.

Airbnb AI Results

Airbnb shares surged on Aug. 7 after the company posted second-quarter revenue of $3.61B, ahead of Wall Street’s roughly $3.57B estimate. Earnings per share rose to $1.37 from $1.03 a year earlier, while gross booking value climbed 16% to $27.2B. Nights and seats booked increased 10% to 148.3M.

The company said its AI assistant now resolves nearly 45% of issues without human help, while customer support costs per booking fell about 16% year over year. Airbnb also said AI helped reduce the time from product concept to launch by as much as 60% and supported nearly 80% more feature releases than a year earlier.

Hotels provided another source of growth, with hotel nights rising about three times as fast as home rentals and roughly 35% of first-time hotel guests later booking a home.

Expansion markets grew about twice as fast as core markets, while first-time booker growth accelerated to 11%. Airbnb lifted full-year revenue growth guidance to at least the mid-teens and its adjusted EBITDA margin outlook to at least 35.5%.

AI Case

“AI is the best thing to ever happen to Airbnb,” Chesky said on the Q2 earnings call. His argument was backed by operating data that connected AI with lower support expenses and shorter development cycles, giving investors a clearer way to measure returns from the company’s technology spending.

The rally also raised a valuation question. A model cited by BeInCrypto placed Airbnb’s target price near $159, about 11% below Friday’s close near $178, using an assumption of roughly 12% annual revenue growth.

Before Friday’s spike, Airbnb shares had already gained about 46% in six months, showing that the recovery was underway before this earnings report. Q2 added a set of AI efficiency metrics that investors can compare with revenue, margins and product output in later quarters.
