Ethereum (ETH) is approaching a possible $3,000 move as ETF demand, whale accumulation and derivatives activity strengthen, but the ETH/BTC ratio has yet to confirm the rally.
Key Points:
- Ethereum open interest has reached $30 billion, while institutional and whale accumulation continue to support the market.
- ETH/BTC has failed repeatedly to clear 0.03, leaving an important confirmation signal unresolved.
- Heavy long positioning could increase downside pressure if Ethereum loses momentum before the ratio breaks resistance.
Ethereum $3K Setup
Ethereum’s market setup has improved across several measures. ETH is on pace for a quarterly return above 70%, which would make the period its strongest third quarter on record and roughly double Bitcoin (BTC)’s return.
Open interest in Ethereum derivatives has reached $30 billion for the first time since October 2025, representing about 12 million ETH in exposure. Across Binance, Bybit, Bitget, HTX and Gate, the average long-to-short ratio stands at 1.54, showing that leveraged positioning remains tilted toward longs.
Institutional demand has also recovered. According to Arkham Intelligence data cited by AMBCrypto, BlackRock’s two Ethereum ETFs bought about $1.01 billion of ETH over the past 20 trading days, including $787.2 million through ETHA and $221.2 million through ETHB.
Whale activity points in the same direction. Lookonchain data showed one unidentified holder swapped another 200.71 Bitcoin, worth about $17.2 million, for 6,247 ETH, extending a six-day rotation totaling 1,308 BTC, or about $104 million, into 40,670 ETH that was subsequently staked.

ETH/BTC Resistance
The missing confirmation is coming from the ETH/BTC pair. The ratio recently posted its highest weekly close in eight months, but it has failed three times in just over a month to break resistance near 0.03.
AMBCrypto said a sustained move above that threshold would offer stronger evidence that Ethereum is gaining relative momentum against Bitcoin. Without a breakout, the heavy long positioning could become a risk because leveraged traders may unwind positions if ETH loses momentum.
That makes the 0.03 level important for the $3,000 thesis. Ethereum’s ETF inflows, whale accumulation and derivatives positioning support the bullish case, but ETH/BTC remains the signal that could distinguish broader market rotation from a rally driven mainly by leverage.
The ratio’s recent history also explains the caution. ETH/BTC has repeatedly tested 0.03 without holding above it, even as Ethereum moved toward a record third-quarter return, leaving relative strength against Bitcoin as the main unresolved part of the setup.
