Anthropic is in talks to buy Israeli artificial intelligence startup Decart for about $6 billion, in what would rank as its largest acquisition to date.

Key Points:

  • Anthropic is negotiating to acquire Decart AI for roughly $6 billion, though talks are early and could still fall apart.
  • Decart builds software that helps chips run AI models more efficiently, cutting the cost of training and serving those models.
  • If a deal closes, Decart's team would move into Anthropic's inference and performance organization.

Decart Deal Would Top Anthropic's Acquisition Record

The discussions surfaced Wednesday, when people close to the negotiations put the price near $6 billion and described the target as an infrastructure asset rather than a rival model builder.

Representatives for both companies declined to comment. The talks sit at an early stage and could still collapse.

Decart's roughly 100 employees would move into Anthropic's inference and performance organization if a transaction closes.

Three Israeli engineers founded the startup in 2023: Dean Leitersdorf, his brother Orian Leitersdorf and Moshe Shalev, two of whom met while serving in the military's Unit 8200 signals intelligence branch.

Chip Efficiency Turns Into A Strategic Asset

Decart writes software that helps a wide range of chips run AI models more efficiently, which cuts training costs and lets existing hardware serve more customers. The company also builds so-called world models, including Lucy, which rewrites live video in real time, and Oasis, which generates synthetic environments for robotics and self-driving research. E-commerce platform eBay is both an investor in Decart and a customer of it.

Leitersdorf, the chief executive, told an audience in Paris in July that his industry was reinventing whole sectors of the economy within a two-year window. "This market is moving so fast," he said at the conference, and buyers have started treating that optimization work as a strategic holding rather than a supplier relationship.

The timing matters because Anthropic filed a confidential S-1 with the Securities and Exchange Commission in early June, and its most recent funding round valued the company near $965 billion. Compute spending is the line that prospective public investors will study first. Anthropic said last week that it was hiring engineers to help design custom chips and make Claude run faster.

Decart Valuation Climbed From $500M To $4B

Anthropic was not the only bidder circling. Nvidia held advanced talks to acquire Decart before larger offers arrived, and Amazon, Nebius and SpaceX all surfaced as possible buyers before Elon Musk dismissed the SpaceX claim as false.

Decart's price has climbed at a pace with few parallels in Israeli technology. An early round valued the company near $500 million, and a later financing lifted it to $3.1 billion in August 2025. A $300 million round in May led by Radical Ventures brought it close to $4 billion, meaning a $6 billion sale would add roughly 50% in three months.
