Patrick Kane Contract Terms And Cap Hit
The Blackhawks confirmed the agreement Thursday, ending three weeks on the open market for a 37-year-old winger who had narrowed his choice to two clubs.
The deal pays $16 million in total and includes a full no-movement clause that runs through the 2027-28 season. It also amounts to a sharp raise for a player who earned between $2.75 million and $4 million in each of his last three years.
Kane spent those seasons with the Detroit Red Wings, where he collected 57 points in 67 games last year, 41 of them assists. General manager Kyle Davidson praised Kane's 16 seasons in Chicago and said the franchise was proud to bring him back to the United Center.
Davidson dealt Kane to the New York Rangers in 2023 as the club began a rebuild. He explained afterward that he did not foresee reversing that decision, wanting a younger group to grow into leadership on its own. Kane weighed a homecoming with the Buffalo Sabres before settling on Chicago.

Blackhawks Rebuild Around Connor Bedard
The signing lands days after Connor Bedard agreed to a five-year, $75 million extension, and the 21-year-old center is expected to miss the opening weeks of the season after shoulder surgery.
Chicago has not reached the playoffs since 2020, and Kane arrives as the veteran scorer meant to cover that gap.
Kane won three Stanley Cups in Chicago, in 2010, 2013 and 2015. He ranks second in franchise history with 1,225 points and third with 446 goals, and he collected the Calder, Conn Smythe, Hart and Ted Lindsay awards along the way. Since the 2023 trade the club has rebuilt around younger players, and longtime captain Jonathan Toews retired in June.
