'Musk It': Elon's Father Plans $200M TRUMP-Like Meme Coin

Errol Musk, father of Elon Musk, has unveiled plans to introduce a meme coin called "Musk It," with an ambitious fundraising target between $150 million and $200 million.

Meme coins, often driven by internet trends rather than intrinsic value, have surged in popularity recently. "Musk It" enters the market amidst a series of contentious meme coins, which have sparked concerns in the cryptocurrency sector.

While Elon Musk has had considerable influence on cryptocurrencies, notably Dogecoin (DOGE), he has never launched his own token. According to a report by Fortune, Errol Musk believes that his coin could have a substantial impact.

Errol Musk and his partner, Nathan Browne, plan to leverage funds from the Musk It initiative to support the Musk Institute, a newly-founded for-profit think tank dedicated to scientific innovation. Although Errol emphasizes that his venture is independent of Elon, the association with the renowned CEO of Tesla and SpaceX is likely to influence investors' perceptions.

A user on X remarked, "If the Musk family is involved, you know it’s going to be a RIDE," highlighting public curiosity.

Initially launched in December by a Middle Eastern cryptocurrency firm, Musk It struggled to gain traction until Errol Musk's endorsement. Despite assurances that it isn't a "pump-and-dump" scheme, the absence of detailed transparency has raised industry concerns, as its tokenomics remain unclear. Uncommon in crypto projects, this lack of insight contrasts with standardized disclosure, although CoinGecko data shows Musk It's market cap nearing $27 million.

The complex relationship between Errol and Elon Musk is well-documented. Walter Isaacson's 2023 biography of Elon describes his father as a "charismatic fantasist," impacting Elon's formative years. The biography also notes strained family ties following personal controversies, which Errol has disputed. His choice to initiate a project tied to the Musk name may exacerbate existing tensions.

Errol Musk's entry into meme coins coincides with a rise in politically and celebrity-driven tokens, such as TRUMP and MELANIA. These developments have prompted political discourse, with Democratic leaders urging an ethics review into Donald Trump's alleged crypto involvement.

Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren has called for stricter regulation on tokens with political affiliations. Elon Musk’s leadership of D.O.G.E, short for the Trump administration's Department Of Government Efficiency, could subject Musk It to regulatory scrutiny.

Scandals have tarnished the landscape as TRUMP token investors have experienced fraudulent activities. According to BeInCrypto, manipulators fostered false excitement only to withdraw funds and flee. Furthermore, Ivanka Trump clarified she has no connection to a deceptive cryptocurrency using her name.

A report from Chainalysis reveals that a mere 40 wallets control a staggering 94% of TRUMP and MELANIA tokens, raising alarms over potential market manipulation. Meanwhile, Cathie Wood of ARK Invest has criticized the buzz associated with newly minted Trump-related coins.
