Toncoin (TON) is set to cut its transaction fees sixfold within a week, with the network's founder hinting that most transfers will eventually go feeless.
Durov Confirms TON Fee Cut
In a post on X, Pavel Durov, the founder and CEO of Telegram, said the fee on the TON blockchain will drop to a fixed 0.00039 TON, or roughly $0.0005 per transaction. The new rate will hold steady regardless of network load.
The previous base fee sat near 0.00234 TON.
The change is the second step in Durov's MTONGA, or Make TON Great Again, roadmap. The first step landed on Apr. 9 with the Catchain 2.0 upgrade, which made the network ten times faster and introduced sub-second finality.
Five more phases remain, though Durov has not shared a timeline.

TON Price Outlook
The fee structure separates TON from most rival chains, where charges spike during congestion. Ethereum (ETH) users still routinely pay between $2 and $15 during busy periods.
Markets, however, have stayed quiet. Analyst Ruslan Khairullin attributed the muted response to broader market conditions and the typical lag between technical delivery and adoption.
TON has fallen roughly 57% year-to-date and currently trades near $1.35, down more than 7% over the past week.
