USDC Brings Cross-Chain Protocol to Aptos, Stripe Partnership Follows

Aptos Foundation is set to transform digital finance through a prominent integration with Circle’s native USDC and Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP), alongside Stripe’s inclusion of Aptos in its crypto offerings. This strategic collaboration positions Aptos as the premier hub for interoperable decentralized finance (DeFi) while enhancing global payment solutions for merchants, all built on a reliable and scalable blockchain infrastructure.

The impending integration of Aptos with Stripe’s crypto platforms, alongside native USDC support, signals a major stride in establishing robust fiat on-off ramps within the Aptos network. It will streamline transactions, enabling seamless connections between conventional finance and blockchain technologies. USDC, a leading dollar-backed stablecoin with over $37 billion circulating, is now heavily utilized on Aptos, reflecting the network’s growing role in digital currency operations.

By issuing native USDC through Circle’s regulated entities on the Aptos network, and leveraging CCTP, developers can create sophisticated cross-chain applications.

Transition strategies involving bridge providers like Stargate, based on LayerZero, ensure a smooth shift from existing bridged USDC to native USDC. The AptosBridge remains operational without immediate changes, although bridged USDC will be relabeled as “lzUSDC” on explorers prior to the native USDC launch. Efforts are underway to update corresponding app interfaces and documents across the ecosystem.

The introduction of CCTP will significantly expand DeFi’s interoperability on Aptos, facilitating secure transfers of native USDC across nine blockchains, which include prominent networks such as Ethereum and Solana. This initiative supports cross-chain activities like seamless onboarding, swaps, and treasury management, enhancing user experience while ensuring efficiency and accessibility.

Integrating Aptos into Stripe’s crypto utilities empowers users with the capability to exchange fiat to USDC efficiently through Aptos-enabled wallets, unlocking immense potential for global businesses. Stripe’s payment solutions, combined with Aptos’ scalable network, offer merchants and payment providers improved transaction speed, security, and cost-effectiveness.

John Egan, Head of Crypto at Stripe, emphasized the expanded access to global fund flows and stablecoin payments this integration facilitates. Likewise, Circle’s Chief Product Officer Nikhil Chandhok highlighted the exponential growth of Aptos’ DeFi ecosystem, underscoring its efficacy in global money transfers and the enhanced role of native USDC and CCTP.

Bashar Lazaar from Aptos Foundation celebrated this integration as a step toward a more secure and decentralized financial future. The collaboration sets the stage for new innovations within the Aptos ecosystem, supported by powerful technology and dynamic builders.
