Coinbase has launched Agentic.market, a marketplace built on its x402 payment protocol that allows AI agents to purchase data and services without API keys. The platform connects AI agents to providers including Bloomberg, Amazon Web Services, and CoinGecko.
What Agent.market Does
Agentic.market operates as a directory of services that AI agents can call and pay for autonomously. Traditional software integrations require developers to register for API keys and manage billing manually. Agentic.market removes that step.
Instead, an AI agent accesses a service, pays in crypto through the x402 protocol, and receives the data in return.
The entire flow is machine-to-machine. No human approval is required at the point of transaction.
Coinbase has not published a full list of services currently live on the platform. Bloomberg, AWS, and CoinGecko have been named as early partners.

How x402 Works
The x402 protocol is named after the HTTP 402 status code, which was originally reserved for future payment use cases but never widely deployed. Coinbase repurposed the concept for machine-readable payment flows.
When an AI agent makes a request to an x402-enabled endpoint, the server responds with payment terms. The agent pays in USD Coin (USDC) or another supported token. The server then delivers the requested resource.
This creates a model where AI agents can operate as independent economic actors. They earn, spend, and transact without requiring a human to manage a bank account or payment card on their behalf.

Why It Matters for Crypto Infrastructure
The AI agent economy has grown faster than the payment infrastructure around it. Most AI agents today still rely on human-managed API keys and credit cards to access third-party data.
Agentic.market is an attempt to build native crypto payment rails for autonomous software. If AI agents can pay for data the way humans pay for subscriptions, the volume of on-chain micro-transactions could increase substantially.
Coinbase has not disclosed transaction volume figures for Agent.market since launch.
