Ethereum Eyed For Euro Stablecoin Settlement Layer

Ethereum (ETH) is being evaluated as the settlement layer for a potential euro-denominated stablecoin, a development that signals Europe's growing willingness to integrate public blockchain infrastructure into its financial system.

Euro Stablecoin Settlement Plans

Market expert and investor Crypto Tice flagged the development on X, noting that the consideration goes beyond a pilot program or sandbox test. European authorities are assessing real infrastructure for digital banking, not running experiments.

The move would position Ethereum as a bridge between traditional finance and decentralized technology.

Crypto Tice emphasized that public blockchains are now being evaluated for sovereign-grade settlement, a threshold previously reserved for legacy financial rails.

Transparency, uptime and security — long considered technical features — are becoming policy considerations, the expert noted. "Public blockchains just entered the sovereign conversation," Crypto Tice said, dismissing speculation that the development amounts to hype.

The consideration of ETH for euro stablecoin settlement suggests that crypto infrastructure is shifting from institutional markets toward government-level adoption.
