OpenAI on Wednesday began rolling out GPT-6 with Intelligent UI, letting ChatGPT answer more than 1.2 billion weekly users with charts, buttons and working tools, not text alone.
Key Points:
- GPT-6 with Intelligent UI reached paid ChatGPT plans Wednesday, with Free and Go tiers due Thursday.
- The model mixes text with graphics, forms and small tools, though plain text answers remain when they fit the question.
- Early coverage warned that interactive answers could use up tokens faster and create room for errors.
GPT-6 Rollout Details
The company announced the release in a blog post, saying it trained GPT-6 to compose answers from text, visuals and interactive elements chosen to fit each question. Responses can now include graphics, tappable buttons, forms and charts.
Plain text remains available when it suits the question, and users can ask outright for tools such as a bill splitter, a retirement savings calculator or a small game.
Paid subscribers received access first. GPT-6 Sol powers the Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise tiers in the Chat tab, while GPT-6 Luna serves Free and Go users, who were scheduled to get the update starting Thursday.
In one demonstration, ChatGPT broke a 7-speed bicycle into five labeled systems, including the frame, drivetrain and brakes, that a user can tap to explore.
Another planned a Sunday lamb roast with images of each dish, a cooking timeline and a guest counter that rescales the shopping list as the number changes. OpenAI said the model draws on a library of prebuilt components that work across web and mobile, and a compiler displays each interface progressively instead of waiting for the full answer.

Intelligent UI Risks
The approach has a precedent.
Google introduced generative interfaces alongside its Gemini 3 model last year. One early assessment of the OpenAI launch argued that the feature drew attention at release but has done little to separate Google from rival AI labs. The same assessment cautioned that interactive answers could burn through users' tokens faster and that visual elements give the model new room for hallucinations.
OpenAI Launch Timeline
OpenAI acknowledged that work remains to improve the model's design judgment. It described the feature as a step toward software that adapts to people, and said GPT-6 Instant begins answering web search questions 44% sooner, on average, than GPT-5.6 Instant.
The launch caps a staggered GPT-6 release. OpenAI opened its flagship GPT-6 Astra to a limited set of organizations on Sept. 3, then added the smaller Sol and Luna models for Work, Codex and developers on Sept. 22. On Oct. 5, the company said it would test a visual ad format for Free and Go users in the U.S. later this month, showing labeled ads during image generation.
