iPhone Air 2 Camera And Battery Upgrades
Mark Gurman first reported in June that Apple had pulled the phone off its autumn calendar, and later leaks filled in the hardware.
The Air 2 will pair a 48-megapixel Ultra Wide lens with the existing 48-megapixel Wide camera, a setup that finally matches the base iPhone lineup. Earlier rumors had placed the device alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models this September.
Engineers shrank the TrueDepth module to free interior space for the extra lens, a rework that should also narrow the Dynamic Island cutout on the front. Apple plans to keep the 6.5-inch display, the titanium frame and the current dimensions, with a pale lavender finish replacing the light blue option.
Leaker Digital Chat Station listed a 3,500 mAh cell on Weibo, an increase of about 11 percent over the 3,149 mAh battery inside the current Air.

Jon Prosser And Gurman On Air 2 Pricing
Jon Prosser put the launch next spring beside the iPhone 18 and the iPhone 18e, with the Air holding the premium slot in that trio. The split leaves Apple's autumn stage to the Pro models and the folding phone, then hands the spring to its cheaper tiers. Prosser expects a rise of roughly $50, lifting the entry price to $1,049 from $999. Estimates elsewhere run higher.
Reviewers have noted that the thin chassis leaves little room for a larger cell, so much of any endurance gain may come from the 2-nanometer silicon rather than the battery itself.
Reports also point to a vapor chamber cooling system, a component Apple first used in the iPhone 17 Pro to stop sustained performance from tailing off. The company has confirmed none of it.
iPhone Air Struggles Since Its 2025 Debut
Apple released the first iPhone Air in September 2025 at $999. Executives called it the thinnest iPhone the company had ever built. Reviewers praised the titanium frame and the display, then criticized the single rear camera and the battery life, which trailed the cheaper iPhone 17. Buyers never took to it in large numbers.
Samsung shipped its Galaxy S25 Edge months before the Air and then skipped a sequel this year after weak demand, leaving Apple almost alone in the category. The company has since raised prices across its Mac and iPad lines, and lifted iPhone prices in Japan by as much as 11 percent.
