McAfee's Widow Launches AI Meme Coin, Sparking Distribution Debate

Janice Elizabeth McAfee, the widow of the late technology entrepreneur and cryptocurrency advocate John McAfee, unveiled an artificial intelligence-themed meme coin named AIntivirus (AINTI) as a tribute to her late husband. While some within the cryptocurrency community have welcomed this initiative, concerns have been raised about the token’s distribution.

Janice McAfee shared via social media platform X that she sought ways to commemorate her husband and continue his legacy following his unexpected passing. She expressed that John McAfee, a two-time U.S. presidential candidate, would have enjoyed the current developments in the cryptocurrency space, and she was pleased to have found a project that allows him to "participate posthumously." Notably, McAfee's account on X remains active under the name AINTI, serving as an AI likeness of him.

Comments on Janice's announcement have been mixed, with some suggesting her account may have been compromised due to the British spelling of "honor" as "honour." Others are enthusiastic about the project and eager to invest. However, analysis by on-chain experts has highlighted issues with the token's supply.

Data from blockchain analysis platform Bubblemaps revealed significant insider activity. The token's deployer, known as VirUs, distributed 90% of AIntivirus's 100 million supply to 287 addresses ahead of the launch. Upon release, 60 addresses liquidated their holdings, netting $1.5 million. At present, 71% of the tokens are held by various wallets, suggesting insider involvement.

John McAfee was renowned for his influence in the cybersecurity domain, particularly through McAfee Associates, which launched several antivirus programs. Known for his vocal support of cryptocurrency, McAfee's life came to a tragic end in 2021 in a Spanish prison. Prior to his death, U.S. authorities charged him with tax evasion and the fraudulent promotion of initial coin offerings. He was detained in Spain and awaiting extradition to the U.S. when he passed away.

This development concerning AIntivirus has sparked significant discussion regarding both the token’s distribution and McAfee's enduring impact on the tech and crypto worlds.
