Apple has released iOS 27, putting its rebuilt Siri AI assistant on iPhones after a two-year delay, though usage caps and regional limits narrow what many owners actually get.

iOS 27 Siri AI Rollout
Apple released iOS 27 on Sept. 14 as a free update for the iPhone 11 and later models, following a summer of developer and public beta testing. The company says apps now launch up to 30% faster. Its biggest additions, however, require an iPhone 15 Pro or newer.
Siri AI is a new version of the assistant that can draw on a user's messages, emails and photos, answer questions about what is on screen and pull fresh information from the web. It launched as an English-only beta alongside a dedicated Siri app, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish due in October.
Server-based features, including Siri AI, photo editing tools and Image Playground, run under daily caps, and Apple has promised expanded access for a fee later on. Europe is another gap. Siri AI won't reach iPhones in the European Union at first, and Apple's new AI features remain unavailable in China while the company works through regulatory requirements.
Photos now offers Spatial Reframing, which changes a shot's angle after the fact, plus Extend and an upgraded Clean Up tool, though early testers advised against pushing reframing too far. Safari can sort tabs into topics, flag price drops and build custom extensions from a plain description, while a new slider lets users adjust the Liquid Glass look.

Federico Viticci On Siri AI
Apple reviewers wrote in a review published this week that Siri AI's underlying models trail the competition on anything beyond simple knowledge queries. He could not see it replacing OpenAI's ChatGPT for deeper research. He also flagged the lack of an agent mode.
Still, Viticci argued that Siri AI can act inside native apps in ways no third-party agent can match, and he expects it to be good enough for millions of people. Apple trained its five new foundation models on its own data and refined them with outputs from Google's Gemini, though Viticci stressed that no Gemini model runs inside Apple's software.
The launch ends a long wait. Apple first promised a more personal, context-aware Siri at its 2024 developer conference, but the upgrade slipped and the company fell behind rivals in AI. It finally showed Siri AI at its WWDC keynote on Jun. 8, released a developer beta that month and opened a public beta in July.
