Zero Gravity Labs (0G Labs) has successfully secured a substantial $290 million in capital funding aimed at developing the pioneering decentralized artificial intelligence operating system (dAIOS). This significant financial support accentuates the potential to revolutionize AI infrastructure through decentralization and blockchain.
On November 13, the company revealed the completion of a $40 million seed funding round. A diverse array of venture capital investors, including Hack VC, Delphi Digital, OKX Ventures, and others, contributed to this initial raise. A subsequent $250 million was acquired through a financing agreement, ensuring the startup can leverage a liquid line of credit and obtain a commitment for its token purchases. These funds grant the 0G Foundation access to digital assets on exchanges at preferential over-the-counter rates.
Michael Heinrich, co-founder and CEO of 0G Labs, expressed to Cointelegraph that the secured financing could "unlock powerful new possibilities for decentralized AI." He emphasized the project's significance in light of the potential risks AI could face without blockchain technology's safeguards.
The capital will be dedicated to advancing 0G Lab’s AI operating system, which integrates blockchain-based infrastructure designed to power decentralized AI applications efficiently. As detailed in their white paper, the system employs a modular, layered architecture composed of storage, data availability, and data serving networks.
Beyond enhancing storage and data processing capabilities, the protocol aims to streamline the management of extensive data sets and demanding computational tasks. A secure, decentralized framework promises increased data throughput rates reaching up to 50 gigabytes per second. The inference layer within this system will facilitate real-time AI computations directly onchain, minimizing the dependence on offchain processing and ensuring faster insights.
Heinrich disclosed plans to decentralize the network further by launching "alignment nodes," which empower supporters to become part-owners of essential infrastructure. This initiative is set to galvanize participation and support for the project.
Startups at the intersection of blockchain and AI have seen substantial investments in recent months. Cosmo Jiang, portfolio manager at Pantera Capital, during a previous discussion with Cointelegraph, remarked on the growing alignment between AI and blockchain.
He suggested that AI will soon serve as an indispensable resource for all businesses, similar to how the internet has evolved over the past two decades.
In July, Sentient secured $85 million to create an open-source AI platform aimed at enabling developers to monetize their models and data. Influential investors like Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund and Pantera Capital backed this venture, underscoring the excitement surrounding blockchain-enhanced AI development.
