Apple will charge as much as $1,499 to fix a damaged iPhone Duo without AppleCare+, including $999 for the inner folding screen, as preorders for the $1,999 foldable approach.
Key Points:
- Out-of-warranty repairs on the iPhone Duo top out at $1,499, and the inner display alone costs $999.
- AppleCare+ cuts most of those fees to $99 or less, and costs $399 upfront.
- Repair specialists had warned that damaged foldables may be written off rather than fixed.
iPhone Duo Repair Costs
Apple listed its estimated out-of-warranty repair fees for the iPhone Duo on Oct. 14, two days before preorders open for its first foldable phone. Until then, the company had only disclosed what owners with AppleCare+ would pay. The new list fills in the rest.
Inner display damage tops the list at $999, while fixing the outer display costs $379 and a combined outer display and back glass repair runs $509.
Battery service and rear camera repairs come in at $229 each, back glass alone is $199 and a new cover layer for the folding screen is $49.
Apple notes that authorized service providers can set their own fees. The Duo starts at $1,999, tops out at $3,199 for the 2TB model and ships to buyers on Oct. 23.

AppleCare+ Repair Math
AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss for the Duo costs $19.99 a month, $199.99 a year or $399 upfront. With the plan, inner display and other accidental damage repairs drop to $99, outer display and back glass fixes cost $29, and battery service is free once capacity falls below 80%. A single cracked inner screen tips the math toward the upfront option, because $399 plus the $99 fee comes to $498.
The uninsured fees also run well above those for Apple's regular flagships. The iPhone 17 Pro's 2025 fee list put other damage at $749 and a front screen at $329, so the Duo roughly doubles the first and triples the second.
Repair and insurance specialists had braced for steep numbers. Ricky Panesar, whose repair firm iCorrect works on Apple devices, expected Apple to tightly control Duo repairs and guessed in September that a screen would cost about £800 in Britain. Quinton Goddard of device protection company SquareTrade warned that damaged foldables may be written off rather than fixed until the market around them matures, noting that the screen and hinge make up a large share of a foldable's cost.
Concerns about the Duo's durability have followed it since its September debut.
Earlier this month, Apple hardware engineering vice president Kate Bergeron said the nano-texture cover layer over the inner display can be peeled off and replaced, a fix aimed at wear and the visible crease. Late last month, a source close to Foxconn's supply chain told Chinese media that final assembly yields for the phone stood only slightly above 60% as of Sept. 17.
