Iranian Speaker Disputes 7 Trump Claims On Hormuz, Uranium

Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf accused Donald Trump of making seven false claims in one hour about the Strait of Hormuz and ceasefire terms.

Ghalibaf Rebukes Trump

Ghalibaf posted the rebuke on X and Telegram late Friday. He directly challenged Washington's account of the Strait's reopening and the wider ceasefire framework.

The speaker rejected any idea that the U.S. had gained leverage through public statements. Washington "did not win the war with these lies, and they will certainly not get anywhere in negotiations either," he wrote.

He warned the waterway would not stay open under a continued blockade, adding that all vessel transit would follow a route set by Tehran and require coordination with Iranian forces.

Ghalibaf also dismissed Trump's claim that Iran had agreed to hand over its enriched uranium stockpile, calling the assertion entirely untrue. Iran's Parliamentary National Security Committee spokesman echoed that denial to Al Jazeera.

Hormuz Reopening Falters

Iran formally declared the Strait open on Apr. 17, after a Lebanon ceasefire met one of Tehran's conditions. Brent crude fell more than 9% to $90.38 per barrel, and U.S. crude dropped 11.4% to $83.85.

Traffic has not normalized. Shipping remains well below the pre-war average of 130 to 140 vessels per day, with over 150 tankers anchored near the Strait.

Bitcoin (BTC) traded at $77,192 at the time of writing, up 3.6% over 24 hours, though the expected push to $80,000 has stalled. Bitcoin crossed $77,000 Thursday on the initial Hormuz reopening headlines, its highest mark since February, before traders began questioning the optimism.
