Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao dismissed viral rumors suggesting he was dating actress Sydney Sweeney, calling the claims "fake news" while urging his followers to sharpen their ability to identify misinformation in an era where unverified stories spread rapidly across social media platforms.
What Happened: CZ Debunks Dating Rumors
The speculation originated from an X post that claimed Zhao, widely known as CZ, was in a romantic relationship with the "Euphoria" star. The post included side-by-side photos of both figures and quickly gained traction with hundreds of likes and reposts.
CZ responded directly on X, stating he had never met Sweeney. "Poor Sydney Sweeney. Never met her. I don't socialize much," he wrote.
The cryptocurrency mogul also used the moment to caution traders about the dangers of viral misinformation. "Figuring out what 'news' to not believe in is becoming harder, but you will be richer if you can," CZ added.

Why It Matters: Misinformation Risks
CZ's warning carries weight given the cryptocurrency industry's susceptibility to rumors that can influence trading decisions almost instantly.
The former Binance CEO has himself amplified unverified claims before, including a recent post about Elon Musk's X platform introducing in-app cryptocurrency trading.
He has previously cautioned followers against investing in memecoins created based on his random social media posts. BNB showed no notable price movement tied to the rumor, trading around $944 with a 0.4% gain over 24 hours.
Notably, Sydney Sweeney has shown no reaction neither to the rumors nor to CZ's debunking of them.
