Apple will hold a "Pro and tell" event in Los Angeles on Oct. 28, where it is expected to unveil its first MacBook Pro with a touchscreen and OLED display.

Key Points:

  • Apple has confirmed the date and city but has not named any products.
  • New 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models are expected to bring touch and OLED screens to the Mac.
  • Some of the new devices could reach stores as soon as Nov. 6.

Apple Event Details

Apple confirmed the event Monday, and marketing chief Greg Joswiak posted a teaser on X that read, "Can't wait to pro and tell next week." The company has invited journalists to an in-person session starting at 10 a.m. Pacific Time. Press releases could arrive at that hour, followed by hands-on time with the devices rather than a traditional keynote.

Apple has not said what it will show. Still, reporting ahead of the event points to redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with OLED touchscreens, a Dynamic Island in place of the notch and a much lighter build.

Those flagship laptops are expected to keep the current M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. A cheaper 14-inch MacBook Pro and a refreshed iMac should move to the M6, Apple's first 2-nanometer chip, while keeping their current designs. An iPad mini with an OLED screen, better speakers and a front camera shifted to the landscape edge is also expected.

MacBook Pro Touchscreen

The shift marks a sharp turn for a company that has long rejected touchscreens on laptops, saying macOS was built for a mouse and trackpad.

The new model is reportedly the first step in a wider plan to overhaul every Mac over the next year.

Apple has already left clues in macOS 27, including touch support in Sidecar, pull-to-refresh and slightly larger menu bar items. Mark Gurman reported earlier this year that touching a button or control will bring up a new menu around the user's finger. Tapping the menu bar will enlarge its controls for easier use.

Apple Fall Launches

Gurman, who first pegged the event for Oct. 27, has also flagged a retail store reset on the evening of Nov. 5. That timing suggests some devices could go on sale Nov. 6.

The Los Angeles showcase will be Apple's third product launch this fall. CEO John Ternus, who took over from Tim Cook on Sept. 1, opened the season with the foldable iPhone Duo, which goes on sale Oct. 23. On Oct. 13, Apple followed with the HomeView smart display, a new HomePod mini and a refreshed Apple TV.
