Telegram Will Put A Non-Custodial Gram Wallet In Every App, Durov Says

Pavel Durov said Telegram will build a native non-custodial Gram wallet into every version of its app this summer, promising zero-fee transfers for 1 billion users.

Key Points:

Durov calls it the largest rollout of a self-custody crypto wallet in human history. Telegram has set no date beyond the season and released no technical documentation. Gram traded near $1.45 on Tuesday, well under its May peak.

Durov Promises Native Gram Wallet In Every Telegram App

Durov posted the plan on his personal Telegram channel, describing the coming release as the largest rollout of a self-custody crypto wallet in human history and pledging instant transfers at no cost. He set no date beyond the season and published no technical documentation.

The wording matters for anyone who already keeps crypto inside the messenger. A non-custodial wallet stores private keys on the user's own device, so no company can freeze, seize or misplace the balance. It also means a forgotten recovery phrase ends in permanent loss.

Telegram already carries wallet features, but they run inside a mini app built by The Open Platform rather than by Telegram itself. More than 150 million people have activated that service, which splits into a custodial account and a self-custodial option called TON Space.

Telegram Wallet Faces Custody And Regulatory Hurdles

Regulation has shaped the product before. Telegram launched a separate non-custodial wallet for United States users in July 2025 through MoonPay, holding the custodial version back from that market because custodial services trigger far heavier licensing duties. Shipping a wallet inside the app itself strips out both the mini app layer and the outside partner.

Access has also proved fragile, and Telegram's t.me domain went dark on Jul. 13 after the registry placed the address on hold, cutting the main link path into the company's wallet and mini app services.

Gram Price Trails Durov's MTONGA Roadmap

Gram traded near $1.45 on Tuesday, giving it a market value close to $3.96 billion. Analysts have flagged a gap between the size of Telegram's audience and its on-chain activity, since active blockchain wallets still represent a small slice of the user base, a bottleneck that has trailed every Telegram crypto product since 2023.

Converting that base is the stated point of the wallet push.

Durov renamed Toncoin to Gram in June, a switch that cleared a community vote with 81.22% support and took effect on Jun. 15, and earlier steps in his Make TON Great Again plan cut network fees sixfold and installed Telegram as the chain's largest validator. The coin still trades well below its May peak near $3.
