Apple's first foldable iPhone packs a 4,883 mAh battery, a European Union filing shows, giving the iPhone Duo more capacity than most iPhones, though two Pro Max models still lead.

Key Points:

  • An EU energy label puts the iPhone Duo battery at 4,883 mAh, split between two cells.
  • Only the iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone 17 Pro Max carry bigger batteries among recent models.
  • The Duo is rated for 1,000 charge cycles, fewer than Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8.

iPhone Duo Battery Filing

Apple published the EU energy label on Friday, the same day preorders opened for its first foldable, a book-style phone with a 5.4-inch outer screen and a 7.6-inch inner one. The document lists two cells of 2,962 mAh and 1,921 mAh, matching a leak from July that described the same two-cell layout. Because the Duo works only with eSIM, the figure should apply in every market.

That total lands roughly halfway between the eSIM-only iPhone 18 Pro at 4,288 mAh and the iPhone 18 Pro Max at 5,567 mAh. Among recent models, only the 18 Pro Max and the 5,088 mAh iPhone 17 Pro Max hold more, while the iPhone Air sits far lower at 3,149 mAh.

iPhone Duo Vs. Galaxy Z Fold 8

Reviewers cautioned that real battery life will depend heavily on which screen people use, since steady use of the inner panel drains the battery faster. Apple rates the Duo for up to 44 hours of video playback on the outer display but only 31 hours on the larger inner one. Earlier estimates had pegged the battery at 4,700 mAh, so the official figure came in 3.9% higher.

Android-focused reviewers called the numbers good news for Samsung, whose Galaxy Z Fold 8 has a smaller 4,660 mAh rated battery but lasts 1,200 charge cycles before falling to 80% capacity.

The Duo is rated for 1,000 cycles, though its 51 hours and 30 minutes of endurance per cycle tops the Fold 8's 49 hours and 10 minutes.

Wider foldables from Xiaomi and Huawei still carry 6,000 mAh and 5,300 mAh batteries.

Supply Crunch

The battery details arrive as Apple struggles to build enough of the phone. Reports last month said the company was making only a few hundred Duos a day, far below the pace of a typical iPhone launch.

That shortage showed the moment preorders opened Oct. 16. Delivery estimates for every color and storage option of the $1,999 phone slipped to January within minutes, and stores ran out of launch-day pickup stock. The Duo goes on sale Oct. 23, and Counterpoint Research expects Apple to sell about 6 million units this year.
