Polymarket traders now put a 91% chance on Spider-Man: Brand New Day clearing $280 million in domestic ticket sales this weekend, far above studio forecasts.

Key Points:

  • Traders price a 91% probability that the sequel opens above $280 million domestically, with a 36% chance it tops $350 million.
  • Sony's own projection sits near $195 million, while independent analysts landed between $230 million and $274 million.
  • Thursday previews cleared $50 million, the third best result ever recorded in the United States and Canada.

Polymarket Odds Outrun Sony Forecasts

The contract priced that outcome at 91% on Friday morning, up from roughly 86% a day earlier, as traders reacted to a preview night that beat every studio and analyst estimate in circulation. A companion market covering higher brackets now hands a 36% chance to an opening weekend above $350 million, a result that would top every domestic debut in the record books. About $60,800 has changed hands there since trading opened Jul. 24.

Sony and Marvel Studios have stayed conservative throughout the campaign, and the studio projects a domestic start near $195 million alongside a $465 million global debut across every market. Independent analysts settled higher, inside a band that runs from $230 million to $274 million, and several of them raised their numbers during the final week as presale data kept climbing.

Every one of those figures now looks small.

Preview Record Lifts Spider-Man Bets

Thursday previews topped $50 million, the third best result ever recorded across the United States and Canada, and the strongest opening night any Sony release has posted in the studio's history. That total also cleared the post-pandemic record of $38.5 million. Advance sales reached roughly $80 million against a reported $225 million net production budget, a cushion that very few releases enjoy before the first Friday even begins.

Director Destin Daniel Cretton's sequel claims 49% of all weekend showtimes across about 4,300 North American theaters, more than double the share The Odyssey commanded when it opened two weekends ago. Audiences graded it 98%, the best mark of the nine live action Spider-Man films, and critics landed at 90%.

Endgame Opening Record Now In Play

Only nine films have ever crossed $200 million in a single domestic weekend.

Box office history ranks Avengers: Endgame first at $357.1 million from 2019, followed by No Way Home at $260.1 million and Avengers: Infinity War third at $257 million.

A $280 million start would push Tom Holland and Zendaya into second place.

Traders have leaned bullish on theatrical markets all summer because studio tracking keeps undershooting the actual result once tickets go on sale, a pattern repeated across several tentpoles this season.

The Odyssey opened above $120 million this month against forecasts near $100 million, then passed $300 million domestically inside two weeks and reset expectations for the rest of the summer slate.
